【摘要】:Manyparameterscontributetotheoverallperformanceofasealantapplication.Someofthemostsignificantparametersaresealantbeadsizeandconfiguration,jointmovement,qualityofworkmanship,thequalityoftheadhesivebond,andthequalityofthesealantmaterial.Asealantusuallyfailstoperformasaweathersealwhenitexperiencescohesiveoradhesivefailure.Ifasealantbeadfails,anevaluationofthetotaljointmovementmaybeneededtodetermineifthejointsealantwasstrainedbeyonddesignorifthesealantfailedwithindesignparameters.Ifasealantbeadfailsadhesively,thereisnostraightforwardprocedurefordeterminingthecause.Theadhesivefailuremaybeduetoworkmanship,thespecificsurfacepreparationused,thespecificsealantused,poorx201C;installedx201D;jointdesign,poorbondchemistryandothercauses.Becauseofthecomplexnatureoftheperformanceofasealantbead,anunderstandingofthequalityoftheadhesivebondisinstrumentalinanyevaluationofsealantperformance.Itiscriticalthatthetestproceduresusedtrulyevaluatethequalityoftheadhesivebondanddonotsimplytakeadvantageofthetearresistanceofthesealant.Thismethoddoesnotevaluatetheperformanceofasealantjointasaweatherseal.Itonlyevaluatesthecharacteristicsoftheadhesivebondrelativetothecohesivestrengthofthesealantinaparticularinstallation.Sinceanyfailuresthatresultfromuseofthistestmethodareintentionallyinduced,theydonotnecessarilymeanthatthesealantjointwillnotperformasaweatherseal.Theresultsofthesemethodsaremostusefulinidentifyingsealantjointswithpooradhesion.Thecontinuousinspectionprocedureisalsousefulintheidentificationofplacesofpoorjointconfiguration.Obviouscohesivefailuresarealsoidentified.Theresultsofthesemethodscanbeusedtoassessthelikelyperformanceofthesealantjointandtocompareperformanceagainstothersealantjoints.Thenondestructivemethodsaremosteffectivewhilethesealantisinastateofextensionduetomildorlowtemperatures.Theyareleasteffectiveduringhightemperaturewhenthesealantisinacompressedcondition.1.1Thispracticedescribesdestructiveandnondestructiveprocedures.1.2Thedestructiveprocedurestressesthesealantinsuchawayastocauseeithercohesiveoradhesivefailureofthesealantorcohesivefailureofthesubstratewheredeficientsubstrateconditionsexist.Theobjectiveistocharacterizetheadhesive/cohesiveperformanceofthesealantonthespecificsubstratebyapplyingwhateverstrainisnecessarytoeffectfailureofthesealantbead.Itispossiblethatthestrainappliedtothesealantbeadmayresultinthefailureofadeficientsubstratebeforeeffectingafailureinthesealant.Note18212;Thedestructiveprocedurerequiresimmediaterepairofthesealantbead.Appropriatematerialsandequipmentshouldbeavailableforthispurpose.Note28212;Sealantformulationsmayfailincohesionoradhesionwhenproperlyinstalled,andtestedbythismethod.Thesealantmanufacturershouldbeconsultedtodeterminetheappropriateguidelinesforusingthismethod.1.3Thenondestructiveprocedureplacesstrainonthesealantandastressontheadhesivebond.Thoughtermednondestructive,thisproceduremayresultinanadhesivefailureofadeficientsealantbead,butshouldnotcauseacohesivefailureinthesealant.Theresultsofthisprocedureshouldbeeitheradhesivefailureornofailure.Note38212;Thenondestructiveproceduremayreq......
